Swine Respiratory Diseases

Swine respiratory disease can destroy profitability in pig production. Often, multiple diseases, or co-infections, are involved, which can increase the length and severity of the disease. These diseases are caused by respiratory viruses and pathogens within the porcine respiratory disease complex (PRDC). Their impact on pig health, performance and profitability is much greater than with a single disease.

PRDC includes both viral and bacterial respiratory pathogens, specifically porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSv), porcine circovirus Type 2 (PCV2), swine influenza A virus (IAV), M. hyopneumoniae (Mhp) and secondary bacterial agents.
